Description of the language levels

A1       They can understand and use everyday expressions, used very frequently, as well as simple statements aimed at satisfying concrete needs. They can introduce themselves and introduce someone, ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, things they own, people they know, etc. They can communicate in a simple way if the interlocutor speaks rarely, clearly and is cooperative.

A2       They can understand frequently used phrases and expressions in familiar areas (basic personal or family information, shopping, areas of interest, professional activity, etc.). They can communicate to solve simple and everyday problems, which only involve a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar or common topics. They can describe, by simple means, aspects of their past and their environment, as well as matters related to their immediate needs.

B1       They can understand essentials and standard language when discussing familiar topics related to work, school, leisure. They can handle most situations encountered during a trip to a region where the language is spoken. They can express themselves simply and coherently on familiar topics and from their own areas of interest. They can relate experiences, events, wishes and aspirations, and they can briefly state their opinions or explain their plans.

B2       They can understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical topics when they are part of their own field of work. They can communicate with native speakers with a certain degree of fluency and spontaneity, so that the conversation does not involve an effort for any of the interlocutors. They can express themselves clearly and in detail on a wide range of subjects, they can express their opinion on a current topic, presenting the advantages and disadvantages of different possibilities.

C1       They can understand a wide range of long and complicated texts and perceive implicit meanings. They can express themselves fluently and spontaneously without obviously having to search for words. They can use the language effectively and flexibly in social, professional or academic life. They can express themselves on topics of a certain complexity, in a clear, structured and detailed way, demonstrating a correct use of the means of organization, structuring and cohesion of the text.

C2       They can understand, practically without effort, everything they read or hear. They can reconstruct facts and arguments from various sources, whether written or oral, summarizing them coherently. They can express themselves spontaneously, very fluently and accurately, and can distinguish fine nuances of meaning related to complex situations.
